Etymology: asynartete asynartetic verse (from Greek asynartētos asynartetic, from a- a- (II) + — assumed — synartētos, verbal of Greek synartan to join together from syn- + artan to fasten, hang) + -ic; perhaps akin to Greek aeirein to lift — more at aorta
of a line of verse : containing disparate or unconnected rhythmic units: as
a. : with unhomogeneous rhythms in the two members distinguished by the caesura
b. : with diaeresis, hiatus, or syllaba anceps at the caesura so that a quasi independence of the two members is effected
